A baby elephant on average weighs 250 pounds. At my heaviest, I weighed 320 pounds. I’m sitting here thinking to myself, “I
weighed MORE than a baby elephant? Holy
shit.” I could have been the poster
child for poor health. A life of
physical inactivity along with a 3+ cans of soda a day had wreaked havoc on my
body. I told myself that I was healthy
since I didn’t have high blood pressure, diabetes, or any of the other ailments
that obese people tend to face.
Blissfully unaware and ignorant, I taught myself that it was “okay” to
be as big as I was.

Then came the fat shaming from a doctor. At an appointment, he said everything he
could think of to “convince” me to lose weight.
As I was leaving, he said, “You may want to consider weight loss surgery
or prescription weight loss drugs since it doesn’t seem like you want to get
healthy.” Well, after eating everything I
could find and becoming depressed for about a week, I decided I would prove
this asshole wrong.
In March of 2011 I set out on a journey to prove the
skeptics wrong. Little did I know that
my biggest enemy and skeptic was myself.
In 18 months, I have lost 160 pounds.
I’ve gone from a size 26 to a size 8.
I hope this blog will provide inspiration for those looking
to make a permanent change in themselves.
My goals are to provide recipes, tips, tricks, exercises, and anything
else I can find. I want to disprove the
myth that weight loss is all about deprivation.
My ideas on food and exercise tend to be non-conventional, so stick with
me! I must note that I am NOT a doctor
and ask that you consult with a medical professional before starting a weight
loss program.
Legal disclaimer out of the way, welcome to my life!

Hi - looking forward to hearing your story! Well done you for being so brave and pushing through the tough times - Marrisa :)
ReplyDeleteGreat first post. Can't wait for more. Like ... What's that doctor have to say for himself NOW? :)
ReplyDeleteYa know, I had thought about going back to that doctor and rubbing it in his face. But, then I realized he would find something else to complain about.
DeleteHi! Can't wait to hear more!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI actually think you are quite lovely and body shaming is horrible. No ones self worth should be dictated on their waist size. However I do think its important for everyone to exercise regularly and eat well. Im on my journey as well, with the need to lose an uber amount of weight (but not because I think Im not fabulous, cause oh I am pretty fabulous ;) and I think you are too. GOOD LUCK!!!
ReplyDeleteHeather, thank you so much for that. I WAS awesome at that size, and I'll be awesome at any size. I just feel more awesome at this size!
DeleteGood luck on your journey!
